Take a Tour around Regent’s Garden Guide

Join us for an exciting walk around the gardens of Regent’s & explore 34 key points including beehives & a secret garden.

‘The Gardens of Regent’s University London’ is a detailed look at the history and development of the York lawns. The university site has been dedicated to higher education for more than 100 years, and was originally home to the first college of higher education for women in Britain. Read more and download the free guide here.

Today the gardens are managed to encourage biodiversity and sustainability thanks to a team of dedicated gardeners and trainees. As well our honeybee hives, we grow a selection of vegetables and herbs. We also have a native wildflower meadow in our woodland area.

Event Decor : How to Set the Scene

Some people find it hard to visualise but to try can be so much fun. Everyone is able to some degree visualise, otherwise you would never put on a nice colour coordinated outfit, decorate your living room or design a garden. All you need is a little imagination, creativeness, and planning.

Where to Begin?

Some people find it useful when sourcing for wedding or event decoration to make a portfolio of inspirational photo clippings gained from their favourite magazines or websites and personal photos.

Visualise the Setting

Now in your minds eye, spend a while to picture your ideal event decor. Did you visualise traditional or contemporary decor? What style do you envision would suit your personality or guest preference or both? Consider the venues geographical context; is it set in a relaxed landscape or busy vibrant urban area? Considering your venues location and existing features plays a very important part. Is it a modern or period featured building and would you like to harmonise your decor with the venues original features or offer a complete contrast?

Dressing the Venue

Now imagine arriving at the venue. Walk it through in your mind’s eye. Are you welcomed by an empty doorway or a magnificent arch of flowers? Strategically placed up-lighting to illuminate and accentuate existing features and floral displays contribute well to focal points or unify a space.

Some venues merely require complimenting with decorative props. such as glistening crystal garlands. Other spaces may require a complete magical transformation involving draping, breath-taking ceiling canopy or mood lighting effects.

Generally however, it’s the centerpieces, event backdrop and table decorations that tend to be most memorable aspects . As guests enter your reception, it is these aspects that collectively greet them  and set the scene for the entire event.

Style of Event : Marquee reception in York Lawns

Guest Numbers : 250

When we first embarked on finding a wedding reception venue, we looked at a number of options in central London… but we immediately got a strong feeling – both for the venue – but especially for our wedding coordinator,  someone who we knew would be helpful, constructive, but above all, level-headed.  She was also fun to work with, always positive, and constantly went the extra mile to ensure that our day was as special as we wanted it to be.

From our initial meeting, through to 11pm when we (finally) left the building on our wedding day, Regent’s University London excelled.  From helping us draw up the initial plans, through to the menu proposals and food tasting, to the entire organisation, and – of course – those unexpected curved balls (people with food allergies, how do we permit live music, last minute alterations)… the venue team could not have done more to help.

Couples First Dance

As someone – myself – with a very strong planning focus, I was very happy to leave so much in their hands because the trust that we had built up, demanded no less.  They were very accommodating on our tardy decisions on certain key requirements – firm, but always calm. our coordinator was  happy to suggest ideas (e.g. chair backs), but not in an over-powering way – always making it clear that it was OUR day.

We mentioned the venue team.  They were incredible.  The food itself was out of this world – the menu choice for what anyone would perceive as “just a University” was more in keeping with a 5-star hotel (and better in fact than some of the 5-star hotels we considered locally) – the students are very lucky!  And then the quality of the food – it is quite impossible to conceive that it is possible to create 250 covers so impeccably.

The venue itself was one of the (many) reasons why we chose Regent’s University London.  Many people are aware of it, but few have been inside, giving it that awe of the unknown.  The façade with the greenery is quite stunning, and then the marquee that you arranged was quite magnificent.

Finally, for us, what summed up the whole experience was Regent’s solution to our “music problem”.  One of the many things that draws Nicki and I together, is the love of live music, and we were perturbed by the challenges that being a Royal Park in a residential part of London would bring to that.  However, you and your team took it upon yourselves to come up with a solution to ensure that our day was a fantastic success.

It is very hard to describe how fantastic your Wedding Day is, in just a few words (so we won’t try!), but over the full day, the one part where you spend the most time, and your guests have the greatest memories, is the reception… and five months on, people are still talking about it.

Topshop Comes to Regent’s

Regent’s University London was chosen as the venue to showcase the Topshop Unique Spring Summer 2014 catwalk collection of new designers at this year’s London Fashion Week.

Guests of the three day event stepped onto a grassy set designed within the four acres of York Lawn gardens by architect Pernilla Ohrstedt and were transported to the Heat Rave and clothes that roll effortlessly from day into night. Ohrstedt’s name is a regular feature in prestigious magazines and creative tomes around the world.

Taking over the gorgeous gardens and sprawling pathways of the York Lawns, Ohrstedt created a truly sweeping, spacious and utterly stylish Showspace.

I go running in Regents Park, so it is more familiar than iconic to me. But Regents University Gardens are normally off limits so it was a privilege to be able to invite people to the Showspace.

The weather was not enough to put off guests who included some of fashions most influential players; CEO of Arcadia Group Sir Philip Green, legendary Supermodel Kate Moss and Editor in Chief of American Vogue Anna Wintour. IT-girls Daisy Lowe, Pixie Geldof and Harley Viera Newton watched models Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn strut their way down the runway. and whilst the appearance of One Directions Harry Styles caused quite a commotion.

All food on the day was made in-house by our expert caterers Ampersand who provided an array of delectable goodies that matched the vibrancy and excitement of the show.

It was found that Topshop Unique was the second most talked about brand, with conversations fuelled by the brand’s social media team.

The amount of coverage that this show has received has been in part to the location of the event. York Lawns gorgeous gardens and sprawling pathways were the inspiration behind what was a truly sweeping, spacious and utterly stylish Showspace.

A marquee in the grounds of our private gardens offers the perfect location for your event. We can accommodate up to 500 guests and our in-house catering team has an excellent reputation for high quality food and impeccable service.
